Cambodia: Visiting the Temples of Angkor

Angkor was the capital of the Khmer empire. Today it’s probably the most famous historic site in Cambodia and on the entire territory of Metrohm Siam. Rapat, Metrohm Siam’s product manager for ion chromatography, took me to Angkor to see the magnificent temples and palaces that date back to the 9th to 15th century, including the famous Angkor Wat.

The Angkor area, which is easily reached from the city of Siem Reap, is covered in Khmer temples and palaces. You could spend weeks here without seeing the same thing twice. Rapat and I had only about 24 hours in which we tried to see the highlights of Angkor and the Siem Reap area, which included watching the sun rise at Angkor Wat, a visit to a floating village on the Tonlé Sap lake, and the mysterious and beautiful Ta Prohm temple, famous thanks its appearance to the Tomb Raider movie. Here’s the video about our trip!

The part of the video, showing the silhouette of Angkor Wat with a slowly rising sun and visitors milling about to take a picture, in fast forward mode is wonderfully shot. It is reassuring to know that the brilliant artistic legacy of Angkor area has been conserved and restored quite well for posterity.
